Sine pump design

A Sine pump is a type of pump featuring a sine wave-shaped rotor that creates four moving chambers, which gently convey the duty fluid from the inlet port to the higher pressure discharge port. A sine pump is a new type of positive displacement pump, which has the characteristics of a more compact structure, higher conveying efficiency, and wider viscosity range of applicable conveying medium. Can be widely used in food, beverage, dairy, chemical, pharmaceutical and other industries.

DONJOY PZX Sine Pump Configuration

DONJOY provide the below various configurations.

Sine Pump Beverage industry pump with Reducer Gearbox & Motor

1) Variable–frequency motor, speed could be adjusted by frequency converter(VFD), the adjustable range is big 10-90hz. Must need an additional frequency converter, otherwise, the speed couldn’t be adjusted.
2) Fixed speed reducer and motor, it also can be adjusted by frequency converter(VFD), the default output speed is around 300rpm, but the adjustable range is small, 30-60hz.

Meta Title

Sine Pump | Positive Displacement Sine Wave Rotor Pump for Food, Dairy & Pharmaceutical

Meta Description

A sine pump is a positive displacement pump with a sine wave-shaped rotor that forms four moving chambers for gentle, high-efficiency fluid transfer. Suitable for food, beverage, dairy, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

H1: What Is a Sine Pump?

Asine pump is a type of positive displacement pump that uses a unique sine wave-shaped rotor to create four moving chambers. As the rotor rotates, these chambers gently convey the duty fluid from the inlet port to the higher pressure discharge port — delivering smooth, low-pulse flow with minimal shear and turbulence.

Unlike traditional rotary lobe or gear pumps, the sine pump's sinusoidal rotor profile ensures that each chamber maintains a consistent volume throughout the transfer cycle. This design results in higher conveying efficiency, reduced pulsation, and a gentler handling of shear-sensitive or delicate media.

Key Advantages of a Sine Pump

  • Compact structure — The sine wave rotor design requires fewer moving parts and a smaller footprint than comparable lobe or circumferential piston pumps.
  • High conveying efficiency — Four moving chambers per revolution reduce internal slip and maintain volumetric efficiency across a wide range of pressures and viscosities.
  • Wide viscosity range — A sine pump handles low-viscosity liquids and highly viscous media alike, from thin fluids to creams, syrups and concentrated pastes.
  • Gentle product handling — The sinusoidal motion minimizes shear and mechanical stress, making the sine pump ideal for delicate, shear-sensitive products.
  • Low pulsation — The continuous chamber transition produces a nearly pulse-free flow, protecting both the product and downstream piping.
  • Easy maintenance — The pump head can be disassembled quickly for CIP/SIP cleaning, seal replacement and inspection.

Operating Principle

Inside the sine pump, a precisely machined rotor with a sinusoidal profile rotates within the pump housing. This rotation forms four discrete, sealed chambers that expand at the suction side and contract at the discharge side. Fluid enters through the inlet port, is captured in the moving chambers, and is displaced to the higher-pressure outlet. The result is a steady, predictable flow rate proportional to pump speed — a defining characteristic of any positive displacement pump, including the sine pump.

Typical Applications

A sine pump can be widely used across the following industries:

  • Food & beverage — sauces, fruit concentrates, chocolate, dairy products, beer wort
  • Dairy — milk, cream, yogurt, condensed milk, whey
  • Pharmaceutical — sterile solutions, creams, ointments, biological products
  • Fine chemical — polymers, emulsions, additives, mild-corrosive fluids
  • Cosmetics & personal care — lotions, shampoos, gels

Why Choose a Sine Pump?

When your process demands a gentle, efficient and reliable transfer of viscous or delicate fluids, a sine pump delivers the combination of precision, hygiene and performance that traditional pump designs cannot match. Its compact construction, low-maintenance design and wide compatibility with food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade materials make it a preferred choice for sanitary fluid handling systems worldwide.
